Accessibility statement

Standard

The site aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. It is partially conformant: most content meets the guidelines, and the exceptions are listed below.

What has been done

• Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, and the element that has focus is always visibly outlined.
• Text and controls keep a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against their background in all four colour themes, verified with axe-core on every page.
• Images carry text alternatives, headings follow a logical order, and every chart declares a text summary for screen readers.
• The country profiles and the countries hub are complete, readable documents without JavaScript, and they print cleanly.
• On phones every control is at least 28 pixels in each dimension, navigation links 36, and the site works from 360 pixels wide.
• Everything can be read in English, French or Portuguese.

Known limitations

• The interactive map is a visual instrument. Its content is available as text through the country profiles and the trends page, but the map itself cannot be fully operated from a keyboard.
• The sign-in dialogue for the gated Briefs, Reports and Archive pages is provided by Auth0, a third party; its accessibility is maintained by them.
• Article images on the News page come from the publishers' feeds and may lack text alternatives.

How this was assessed

This statement was last reviewed on 2 September 2026, on the basis of automated checks run against every page at thirteen screen sizes in three languages, and a keyboard review of the main journeys.
